Admission Requirements for Undergraduate Studies:

The applicant who wishes to apply for an undergraduate program must submit SAT or MCAT/NEET UG scores, along with other necessary documents. They must also fulfill the required criteria for admission that is equivalent to ATAR or 12th-grade scores, depending on the choice of course.

Admission Requirements for Postgraduate Studies:

For admission to postgraduate courses in Australia, international students will need to provide GRE/GMAT scores or LSAT in case of law programs. Moreover, they may have to appear for an interview and may be requested to provide additional documents or portfolios.

Australia Intakes

Australian universities enroll students in two intakes – one in February and another in July. To be considered for the February intake, applications need to be made by March of the previous year, with the process finalized by October or November, while those applying for the July intake must ensure that they have submitted their application by the end of April or the beginning of May.

Part-Time Work for International Students in Australia

International students studying in Australia are allowed to work in part-time roles with up to 20 hours of work a week or 40 hours fortnightly. The 40-hour rule was introduced in order to bridge the unemployment gap in Australia that occurred due to the economic disruption caused by the pandemic restrictions. The average wage offered for part-time jobs is somewhere between AUD 27 – 34/hour. Popular job roles among part-timers include:

Post-Study Work Permit in Australia for International Students

International students who graduate from Australian universities can apply for the Temporary Graduate 485 (subclass) visa, allowing them to stay and work in Australia temporarily. To be eligible for this PSW visa in Australia, there are certain criteria that must be met.

  • Applicant must be under the age of 50
  • Applicant must have applied for their first student visa and been granted on or after 5 November 2011
  • Applicant must have held the student visa during the last six months before submitting the application.

International students who meet the requirements for admission at an Australian university and gain their CoE (confirmation of enrollment) need to apply for a student visa. Applications for student visas for studying in Australia can be done online. Those applying for undergraduate programs should apply for a subclass 500 visa, whereas those applying to postgraduate programs will require a subclass 485 visa.

Subclass 500 Visa A subclass 500 visa in Australia will cost AUD 630 (INR 34,775.93 approx.) and allows students to stay in the country for a duration of up to five years based on their enrolled program. 

Subclass 485 Visa The subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visa in Australia cost AUD 680 (INR 36,680 approx.), allowing applicants to stay for up to four years. In both cases,  if a longer period of stay becomes necessary, it is possible to request a visa extension.

Student Visa Requirement for Australia In order to be eligible for a student visa in Australia, international students seeking admission to Australian universities must make sure they have the necessary documents. The list of required documents for an Australian student visa application is mentioned below: 

  • Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) is a document provided by the University or College you have applied to. It indicates your enrolment in the course and also serves as proof that the program you are taking is endorsed and listed in the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for International Students (CRICOS). This certificate is mandatory when applying for a Visa.
  • Valid Passport At the time of application, you must have a valid passport with at least 6 months of validity. Additionally, during your stay you need to make sure that your passport remains valid. If not, you can apply for a new one after submitting your Visa application and inform the embassy upon receipt. Remember to update your account with the updated passport information.
  • English Language Proficiency  In order to obtain an Australian Visa, Indian students must provide evidence of English language proficiency. No matter what course you are applying for, this proof of English language proficiency is needed when you fill out the Visa Application Form. Five tests are accepted by the Australian Immigration Department namely; International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Occupational English Test (OET), Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Pearson Test of English (PTE), and Cambridge English Advanced (CAE). 
  • Health Checkup and Insurance  In order to obtain a student visa for Australia, you need to provide proof of your good health. A certificate of good health is required. The health checkup and certificate can only be obtained from empaneled doctors.
  • Proof of Sufficient Funds You need to submit documents that certify you have enough money to support your stay in Australia.
  • Penal Clearance students wishing to study in Australia should provide a Penal Clearance or police clearance document. This must be duly signed and attested by the regional passport office.
  • Certified Copies of Academic Transcripts and Passport  Students need authentic academic documents and transcripts when applying for an Australian student visa, so you need to make sure that you submit valid copies to avoid visa application rejection.
  • Passport Size Photographs Students need to submit 4 passport-size photographs. When submitting your passport-size photographs, please ensure they are head and shoulder shots only against a plain background, with your name printed on the back of each photograph. 
  • GTE Requirement This statement must be written by the applicant in order to show their intentions of studying in Australia. The GTE statement must include details on whether their stay is going to be permanent or temporary. 
  • Employment History The students can submit their recent CVs as well as pay slips to demonstrate their employment status. The purpose is to gain an understanding of where the applicant has held positions, thus providing an extra background check.
